I am now officially halfway through my training. I'm a little behind due to a back injury and a little vacay out to Monterey, but I'm catching back up and I ran my first long run of the training season. Last Saturday was a 12 miler in cold but sunny weather, hovering around the mid 40s. It's my ideal temperature and I don't look forward to the weather warming up.
I ran one of my usual routes and there was a big muddy wet empty field where a big office building used to be. Stuck in my head on repeat for almost 2 hours was Devil is Fine by Zeal & Ardor, and for some reason there were a smattering of Chop Chop Master Onion's rap from Parappa the Rapper.
Next month is going to be a big month, with the majority of my long runs capped by the almighty 20 miler at the beginning of April. Just thinking about it makes my face hurt, but the good news is after these long runs I can physically fit more McDonald's into my body than any normal day. One of my most memorable meals was McDonald's after a 20 miler and it was GLORIOUS.
Hopefully there's nothing that sets me back like last season (knocks on wood). I'll do my best to pay attention while I'm walking so I don't roll out my ankle, and I'll wash my hands every once in a while to get rid of those stupid dumb germs. Onward.
